Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about TuneFreq.

Getting Started

Do I need to be an artist to join TuneFreq?

No! Anyone can join as a listener to discover and purchase music. If you're a musician, you can also create an artist profile at any time.

Is TuneFreq free to use?

Yes, it's free for listeners. You can browse, listen to community radio, and create an account at no cost. You only pay when you purchase music. Artists also upload at no cost—we only take a cut when they make sales.

How do I sign up?

Go to /signup, enter your email, verify it, and you're in! After verification, you'll choose whether you're an artist or listener (you can be both).

Can I install TuneFreq as an app?

Yes! TuneFreq is a PWA (Progressive Web App). On mobile or desktop, you can install TuneFreq from your browser. It works like a native app but runs on the web.

Buying Music

How do I purchase music on TuneFreq?

Find a release you love, click the buy button, complete checkout with Stripe (credit card, debit card, or Google Pay), and the download link appears in your library.

What formats are available?

That depends on what the artist uploaded. Common formats include MP3, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, and M4A. Artists choose which formats to offer.

Can I refund a purchase?

By default, sales are final. However, some artists may offer refunds. In case of an issue (corrupted file, wrong product), contact the artist directly. If unresolved, email [email protected].

Can I download my purchases again?

Yes! Your purchases are stored in your Library under Control Room. You can download them anytime. We recommend downloading important releases so you have a backup copy.

Is community radio free?

Yes! Anyone can listen to our 24/7 community radio. It's preview-quality (128kbps) to discover new music. Artist-approved content is higher quality when you purchase.

Selling Music

How much do I earn from each sale?

You keep 95% of the purchase price. TuneFreq charges 5%, plus Stripe's payment processing fee (typically 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction). So on a $10 sale, you'd earn about $9.45 after all fees. See our Pricing page and TuneFreq vs Bandcamp to get a full fee comparison.

What's the special $5k promo I keep hearing about?

During your first $5,000 in revenue, we waive the 5% platform fee. This means during those early sales, you keep an extra 5%. It's our way of helping artists bootstrap.

How do I get paid?

We process payouts weekly (every Monday) for your current balance. Connect your bank account via Stripe in Control Room—required before you can receive sales. There is no minimum payout. Funds typically arrive within 2-3 business days.

What file formats should I upload?

We accept MP3, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, and M4A. We recommend WAV or FLAC when uploading originals. We'll automatically generate MP3 and streaming-optimized versions.

What's bulk upload?

Upload many tracks at once! You can upload an entire album's worth of files in one go. We process them in parallel, so it's much faster than uploading one track at a time. Learn more in our Features section (bulk upload).

Can I set my own price?

Absolutely! You can set a fixed price, allow fans to name their price, or offer it completely free. It's completely up to you.

Do I retain rights to my music?

100%! You own everything. TuneFreq is just the storefront. You can sell your music elsewhere, too (Bandcamp, Apple Music, etc.). We're not exclusive. See For Artists and our philosophy to learn more.

What about taxes?

You're responsible to report your earnings and pay taxes in your jurisdiction. We provide detailed sales reports you can use during tax preparation. We don't withhold taxes (except where legally required in certain countries).

Community & Discovery

How does community radio work?

Our algorithm prioritizes new, recent releases and ensures artist diversity (so you don't hear the same artist twice in a row). It's 24/7 and free to all users. No algorithms pushing what's popular—just good music.

Can I opt out of community radio?

Artists: Yes! You can opt out individual tracks or entire releases from the radio. You control what gets featured. Listeners: No, but you can always skip or come back later.

How do I follow an artist?

Visit an artist's profile and click "Follow." You'll see their new releases and stories in your feed. You don't need to purchase to follow.

Can I send messages to artists?

Yes! When you purchase music, you can leave a message. Artists see your purchase and your message in their inbox. It's a great way to connect.

What are "stories" on TuneFreq?

Stories are long-form content posted by artists or the platform. They might be artist interviews, gear reviews, music history, or anything relevant to independent music. Think blog posts.
